BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Steven Lash earned his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 1968 and his M.S. in orthodontics from the University of Michigan in 1972. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr. Lash is a part-time faculty teaching craniofacial orthodontics to the orthodontic residents and the craniofacial fellow. He is a consulting orthodontist at the Ian Jackson Craniofacial and Cleft Palate Clinic at Beaumont Hospital in Southfield, MI. For many years, Dr. Lash taught orthognathic surgery in the Orthodontic Department at the University of Detroit Mercy. He practices orthodontics with his daughter Dr. Rebecca Rubin (UM Ortho 02) in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Dr. Lash is a past president of the University of Michigan Orthodontic Alumni Association and served as an Examiner in Orthodontics for the Michigan State Board of Dentistry. He also played a key role in the development of the dentist-owned and -controlled dental malpractice insurance companies and served as Chairman of Underwriting at the Fortress Insurance Company. Dr. Lash is a serious woodworker and in 2010 was awarded The Society of American Period Furniture Makers' Cartouche Award for lifetime achievement (sapfm.org/gallery). He has lectured, written numerous articles, and exhibited his furniture in museums throughout the country. In 2015, he donated his reproduction of Benjamin Franklin's glass armonica to Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia where it is on permanent display at the Benjamin Franklin Museum. He is past president of the Board of Directors of the Associates of the American Wing at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Dr. Lash is married to Carol and has three children and five grandchildren.
