BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Larry Salzmann is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He serves as Director of the Predoctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry as well as Clinic Director for Pediatric Dentistry. He received his dental degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1979 and completed the Certificate Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1982. Dr. Salzmann accepted a full-time teaching position at Northwestern University Dental School in 1982 where he remained until the school closed in May, 2001. Dr. Salzmann was granted Emeritus status by Northwestern University in 2001. In 2001, he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry and served as the Predoctoral Program Director for Pediatric Dentistry before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in the Fall of 2016.

His scholarly interest includes education methodology, curricular development, dental informatics, pulp biology, and HIV/AIDS. He has been active in curricular changes and, through grant opportunities, has been involved in orchestrating several community dental rotations for his students, including health centers whose primary target populations are migrant farm workers and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Salzmann has served on several university, local, and national committees throughout his career. He is proud to boast several awards and recognitions for faculty achievement from his students and alumni. He also maintained a private practice in Chicago for over twenty years.
