Celia Sommer is a third year periodontal resident at the University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry. She earned her dental degree in 2017 from the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, while also earning a master's degree in public health from A.T. Still University. Dr. Sommer is researching how to predictably isolate and expand mesenchymal stem cell populations from avleolar bone and evaluating the influence of systemic variables. The findings from this research may translate into clinical protocols for harvest, expansion, and re-delivery of autologous stem cell therapies aimed to regenerate alveolar and craniofacial bone. While in residency, Dr. Sommer has been awarded the Gregory Zahn Fellowship, Meraw Periodontal Scholarship, and Graduate Perio Summer Teaching Fellowship. Currently, Dr. Sommer serves as an ambassador for the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation.
