The Michigan tradition is grounded in providing opportunities to all qualified students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Recruitment Initiatives, under the direction of Dr. Kennth May, works with the Office of Student Affairs to provide recruitment, counseling and mentoring support. We offer summer programs for high school and college students from “disadvantaged backgrounds”, along with a pre-orientation program for entering dental students.
The School of Dentistry was among the first dental schools to actively recruit and enroll students from diverse backgrounds. For more than three decades The University of Michigan has been a leader in graduating dentists from underrepresented groups.

A Note from the Director
I received my dental and prosthodontic specialty training here at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. It is my privilege to play a role in the educational process of so many young people who are pursuing their dream of becoming dentists.
