Exhibits

Over 15,000 objects have been collected and cataloged and approximately 15% are on display in permanent and temporary exhibitions. 13 Museum exhibit cases, most located on the ground level of the Kellogg Building of the School of Dentistry, feature history of dentistry themes with emphasis on the United States and Michigan.

Visitors can view historical dental tools and equipment from the 18th century to modern times in chronologically arranged dental office settings. Also on view are artifacts featuring areas where the Museum has a substantial collection of oral hygiene products for the consumer, as well as equipment used by dentists including articulators, denture forming equipment, and dental X-ray technology.

Special topics added more recently to the exhibit line-up include: St. Apollonia, the Patron Saint of Dentistry; Dentistry for Children, with some examples of dentistry themed books, toys and games; Dentistry in the Military; and the story of U-M alumnus, Dr. Willoughby Dayton Miller and his significant impact on the field of dentistry. Many visitors continue to enjoy the tooth powder and paste collection on loan from alumnus, Dr. Ronald Berris.
