Student Research Program
Mandatory Guidelines
- SRP mentors have a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and active research programs,
and are full-time faculty members in the School of Dentistry.
- It is expected that the SRP project will be conducted on site in the School of Dentistry at
the University of Michigan.
- The SRP Committee will evaluate the mentor and the research environment as part of the criteria for ranking the student's
application for funding.
- A faculty member may mentor one returning student and one new student each year through the SRP. A "returning
student" is defined as a student returning to the previously funded SRP mentor's laboratory.
- The SRP will not accept reassignment of students after the Committee review process.
- A faculty member may co-mentor one SRP student in addition to mentoring one new student and one returning student
per SRP funding period.
- Ordinarily students may be funded not more than 2 years as part of the SRP program. AADR funding will
not count toward the cumulative 2 year guideline.
- Students applying for the AADR Student Research Fellowship Program must apply through the School of Dentistry's
Student Research Program. Students funded by the AADR Fellowship through the SRP will be eligible for supplemental
funding from the SRP. Since requirements for the SRP Research Proposal and the AADR Research Proposal are identical,
there is not extra work required.
