STUDENT RESEARCH PROGRAM

The Student Research Program (SRP) of the School of Dentistry, The University of Michigan, is designed to provide a rewarding research experience to its DDS and Dental Hygiene candidates. This experience will provide the student with an insider's perspective on the scientific method so that he/she can more fully appreciate the scientific and technological advances that impact on the dental profession. Additionally, this type of experience should help him/her to objectively determine whether the pursuit of a research career is a desirable goal.

Why participate?

There are numerous tangible and intangible benefits associated with participation in the SRP.

- Intellectual

Students will learn to critically examine scientific literature and its relevance to dentistry. This will assist participants later regardless of whether they chooses a career of clinical practice or academic dentistry.

- Travel

Our students are encouraged to present their findings at local, national and international scientific meetings. Participants will meet other students, prominent clinicians, educators and scientists, contacts that will be valuable throughout their career.

- Professional

Successful completion of this program will be a prominent item on participants’ Curriculum vitaes and School of Dentistry transcripts when applying to graduate research programs, graduate specialty programs, general practice residencies and employers.
