Clinical Oral Pathology Patient Consultation Service

Dr. Paul C. Edwards, board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist, offers clinical consultation services for the evaluation and management of a broad range of conditions involving the oral and maxillofacial complex. Examples of conditions treated include:

  • Oral mucosal/dermatologic conditions involving the oral cavity (e.g. lichen planus, pemphigoid, pemphigus)
  • Canker sores (aphthous ulcers)
  • Burning mouth syndrome
  • Oral changes related to systemic diseases
  • Salivary gland dysfunction (e.g. Sjogren’s syndrome)
  • Viral, bacterial and fungal infections
  • Soft tissue lesions of the oral cavity
  • Lesions of the jaws
  • Dry mouth (xerostomia)
  • Other conditions

Dr. Edwards' patients are seen in the Dental Faculty Associates (DFA) Clinic, a private practice setting within the School of Dentistry.

For appointments, a referral from the primary care provider (DDS or MD) is usually required. Written consultation requests from the referring doctor may be faxed to 734-764-2469. The referral should include the patient name, contact phone number, date of birth and reason for consultation, along with the doctor's contact information.
