Research Interests

Research interests are related to exploring how oral health disparities could be reduced. Efforts focus on (a) educational research and (b) behavioral/clinical research related to oral health disparities. The educational research addresses the question how dental and dental hygiene education can be used to create truly patient centered and culturally sensitive future practitioners who enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams and have a clear sense of civic responsibility. The behavioral/clinical research focuses on understanding the role of motivational communication as a tool to strengthen prevention efforts and on explaining how oral health affects the quality of life of underserved patients.
