Urgent Care Clinic

At the University of Michigan School of Dentistry Patient Admitting and Emergency Services Clinic (PAES) you will receive an emergency examination by a staff dentist or a dental student under staff supervision.  Urgent care patients are seen in PAES clinic after calling (734) 764-6933 to schedule an emergency evaluation. Since this is a multi-use facility, you may observe patients being seen who arrived after you.  These patients are here for other reasons and either have scheduled appointments or extreme emergencies.

Most procedures take longer to complete at a dental school due to the nature of the teaching process.  Your patience is appreciated. Activity in this clinic varies from day to day.  The amount of time you may have to wait also depends on how many patients have registered before you.

Although the clinic is in operation from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, the last appointment time for possible emergency treatment is 2:30 p.m.  This allows more time to complete a procedure and coordinate your arrival with the students’ clinic schedules.  On an emergency basis, we can usually treat your most serious problem only.

There is a fee for the emergency examination which you will be expected to pay today.  In addition, there may be other fees for x-rays and for procedures needed to relieve pain and stabilize your condition.  Dental insurance may cover a portion of this.  The health care provider you are about to see can direct you to our Patient Business Office if you need to make any financial arrangements.

As your urgent need is being addressed, your student or staff dentist may advise you of other dental problems present.  It is up to you to decide to continue as a patient of record after today. If you wish to have a student dentist assigned to you, you may schedule an initial visit appointment by calling (734) 763-6933 or, toll-free, (888) 707-2500.
