Important Appointment Policy Information

In most instances, children usually respond better if the parent remains in the waiting room during treatment. However, in certain circumstances, the faculty member may permit one parent to accompany the child. Here are some simple rules we ask you to follow:

1. Only one parent can be present in the treatment area. The parent must remain seated in the chair provided to you throughout your child’s treatment

2. The parent will be required to wear a pair of safety glasses and a blue drape.

3. For the safety of the child/provider, we ask the parent to be a “silent” observer.

4. If the parent would like the procedure to be stopped, please tell the operator directly.

In addition, we make every effort to be on time for your child’s appointment and we ask that you do the same. Patients arriving 20 minutes or more late to their scheduled appointment, may be asked by our supervising faculty to reschedule. Because we are a dental school, training students/residents who have limited time in our clinic, we must have a rigid appointment policy regarding FAILED APPOINTMENTS. Therefore, if you need to change or cancel your child’s appointment, you must contact our office with at least 24 hour business notice. A failed appointment is consistent with a BROKEN APPOINTMENT, failing to provide the required 24 hour business notice or a NO SHOW, not showing up for the scheduled appointment.

Due to the student rotation change in our clinic as well as other clinics, please understand that your child may not be seen by the same provider for all of his/her visits. You will always want to allow at least 2 hours for all dental appointments, unless you are informed otherwise.

The University of Michigan, School of Dentistry has the right to discontinue treatment at any time if the above conditions are not met.
