Dr. Peter X Ma is the Richard H Kingery Endowed Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan. He is a full professor with quadruple appointments in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences in the School of Dentistry, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Macromolecular Science and Engineering Center, Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Ma has been an invited/keynote/plenary speaker for 222 times at conferences and institutions worldwide, such as Gordon Conferences, Society for Biomaterials, the American Chemical Society, Canadian Conference on Chemistry, Asian Symposium on Biomedical Materials, International Symposium on Molecular Nanotechnology (Japan), Forum for Innovative Therapies (Germany), The Korean Society of Bone Metabolism, MEDTEC (Ireland), ICMAT (Singapore), THERMEC, ASAIO, PACIFICHEM, IEEE-EMBS, TMS, ASME, CORS (China) and so forth. He is an inventor of 30 US patents and patent applications. He has published 249 articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings and books. He has also published 194 abstracts/presentations at professional conferences. His publications have made 13 cover stories of journals and books. Professor Ma received a Whitaker Foundation Biomedical Engineering Young Investigator Award in 1999, won a DuPont Young Professor Award in 2000, was featured as one of the five outstanding biomedical engineers by the Whitaker Foundation in 2004, was elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) in 2006, received Changjiang Scholar Honorary Professorship from Tsinghua University and Guangbiao Honorary Professorship from the Zhejiang University Medical School in 2008, and an Honorary Professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2010, was named one of the Top 100 materials scientists in the world (2000-2010) by Thomson Reuters in 2011. He was elected Honorary Member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (The Dental Honor Society) and was elected Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE) of the International Union of Societies of Biomaterials Science and Engineering in 2012. Professor Ma won the Isaac Schour Memorial Distinguished Scientist Award from International Association of Dental Research in 2013, received a Clemson Award from the Society for Biomaterials in 2013, and was elected Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science also in 2013. Dr. Ma was elected Fellow of the Materials Research Society in 2015.

Professor Ma reviews grant proposals for NIH, NSF, DOD, NSERC (Canada), Canada Foundation for Innovation, European Commission, Wellcome Trust Grants (UK), Austrian Science Fund, Swiss NSF, Dutch Technology Foundation, Israel Science Foundation, Singapore Science & Engineering Council, Singapore National Medical Research Council, Singapore National Research Foundation, Hong Kong UGC, Hong Kong RGC, NSF of China, US Civilian Research & Development Foundation, ACS Petroleum Research Fund, MIT Sea Grant College Program etc. Professor Ma serves as a reviewer for more than 80 scientific journals (on 9 Editorial/Advisory Boards) and reviews faculty tenure/promotion packages for more than 30 universities. He has served on 29 organizing committees of conferences and symposiums and has chaired 46 symposiums and conference sessions.
