Ann Arbor, MI — December 12, 2014 — Dr. Robert Eber, a clinical professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine (POM) at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, is the new director of clinical research. Dr. Russell Taichman, associate dean for research, announced the appointment which was effective Dec. 1.
In his new role, Eber is responsible for oversight of the school’s clinical research activities and will work with its research and compliance offices to ensure regulatory and other compliance-related mandates are met. He also serves as director of the Michigan Center for Oral Health Research at Domino’s Farms.
Eber earned his dental degree from Indiana University in 1984 and a master’s degree in periodontology three years later from The Ohio State University. He came to the School of Dentistry in 1995 as a clinical assistant professor. In 2001, he was appointed clinical associate professor and, six years later, clinical professor.
From 1997 to 2000, Eber was director of the Vertically Integrated Clinic’s 3 Green Clinic. He was associate chair of POM from 2000 to 2010. For the past four years, Eber directed the Pathways Program and the Health Care Delivery Pathway. The Pathways Program offers dental students opportunities to engage in mentored projects and self-directed learning in health care delivery, leadership or research prior to completing their dental education at U-M.
“I’m excited to be in this new role,” Eber said “and look forward to working more closely with our outstanding faculty researchers and staff to grow our clinical research portfolio so we can find ways to better serve patients.”
