High Pass Rates on National Boards, NERB
Ann Arbor, MI — September 11, 2012 — The Class of 2014 is having success with the NBDE exams, Part I, administered by the National Board of Dental Examinations.
Through August, 90 of the 106 dental students had taken the test. The success rate of the 90 who have taken NBDE Part I is 99%.
The NBDE Part I and Part II are designed to assist state dental boards in evaluating the preparedness of individuals to practice dentistry. Even though states have varying licensing requirements, all require individuals to successfully complete an educational requirement, a written examination, and a clinical examination before practicing dentistry.
Ninety-seven percent of graduates of the Class of 2012 have passed the Northeast Regional Board (NERB) examination. NERB develops, administers, scores, and reports the results of its dentistry and dental hygiene clinical examinations.
Each state board whose members participate in the NERB accepts the results of the clinical examinations in lieu of its own individually administered clinical examination. Graduates who received a DDS or DMD degree from schools accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, and graduates of dental hygiene programs, are eligible to apply to take the NERB examination in dentistry upon presenting proof of graduation.
