Murdoch-Kinch Selected for ELAM
Ann Arbor, MI — June 14, 2012 — Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch, associate dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Dentistry and clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry, is one of 54 women nationwide selected to participate in a prestigious leadership program for women.
Beginning in September, Murdoch-Kinch will participate in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) Program for Women at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. ELAM is the only national program dedicated to preparing women faculty for senior leadership roles at academic health centers. The women who represent medical, dental, and public health schools across the U.S. and Canada will participate in the 12-month program.
“My participation in ELAM presents an exceptional opportunity for me to develop the knowledge, skills, and relationships to help lead the School of Dentistry through a period of change,” said Murdoch-Kinch. “It will also help foster collaboration with others on campus to further develop other initiatives, including interprofessional education, and ensure our tradition of excellence in clinical education continues.”
Murdoch-Kinch earned her dental degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1985 and a PhD from Indiana University in 1996. She joined the U-M School of Dentistry faculty in 2000. Board certified in oral and maxillofacial radiology and in oral medicine, Murdoch-Kinch has been a member of the U-M Health System’s Comprehensive Cancer Center head and neck oncology program since 2005.
She is also co-leader of a team that has been developing the science foundation component of the School’s curriculum innovation initiative. In July 2010, Murdoch-Kinch was named associate dean for Academic Affairs. The office provides a broad range of services that includes developing and enhancing the academic structure and educational experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
