Ann Arbor, MI — February 1, 2012 — The University of Michigan School of Dentistry will host the first symposium on head and neck cancer stem cells May 10-11.  The two-day program will feature presentations by more than a dozen prominent researchers from North America and Europe.  The program will be held on the U-M Central Campus in the Palmer Commons Building’s Great Lakes Room.

“Symposium speakers will talk about some of the most recent advances in cancer stem cell biology,” said Dr. Jacques Nör, symposium chair and professor of dentistry and otolaryngology.  “We hope this gathering of experts will stimulate new collaborative research initiatives so we can accelerate the pace of discovery towards more effective and safer therapies for patients with head and neck cancers.”

The program will feature four targeted sessions focusing on stem cells and the biology of cancer, epithelial stem cells and cancer treatment, stem cells and the pathology of head and neck cancer, and cancer stem cells in the treatment of patients with head and neck tumors.
