IADR, AADR Awards to Faculty, Students
Ann Arbor, MI — March 28, 2011 — Three U-M School of Dentistry faculty and four students received awards from the International and American Associations for Dental Research during the annual meeting of the organizations earlier this month in San Diego.
IADR Faculty Awards
Dr. Stephen Bayne, chair, Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics, Wilmer Souder Award
This science award for dental materials research is presented for outstanding scientific achievement that has advanced, or is expected to significantly advance, public dental health. The award is supported by the William T. Sweeney Memorial Fund and by the IADR Dental Materials Group.
Dr. Laurie McCauley, chair, Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine, Basic Research in Biological Mineralization Award
This award is designed to stimulate, encourage, and recognize basic research in biological mineralization. This includes research on the mechanism of mineralization in biologic systems, including teeth, bone, ectopic deposits, or model systems with evidence of original thought and accomplishment in the field of calcification. It is supported by the Unilever Oral Care Division.
Dr. Jacques Nör, (senior author) professor, Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics, IADR/AADR William J. Gies Award

The William J. Gies Award is given for the best paper published in the Journal of Dental Research during the preceding year (see above). Nominations are made by individuals, by the Gies Award Committee, and by the editor of the JDR. The JDR Gies Award is open to anyone who publishes in the Journal of Dental Research. This award is supported by J. Morita USA, Inc.
