Dr. Berna Saglik to Receive ADEA Award

Dr. Berna Saglik will be honored at the annual ADEA meeting in March

Ann Arbor, MI — January 27, 2011 — Dr. Berna Saglik, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences and Prosthodontics, is the recipient of a prestigious award from the American Dental Education Association.

Saglik will receive the 2011 ADEA/ADEA Council of Students, Residents and Fellows/Colgate-Palmolive Co. Junior Faculty Award during the ADEA’s annual meeting in San Diego March 12-16.  The award recognizes outstanding junior faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service and a commitment to dental education.  A junior faculty member is someone who has held a full-time predoctoral or postdoctoral faculty appointment at an ADEA member institution for no more than five years and has had a maximum of five years of experience in academia.

Saglik joined the School of Dentistry faculty in 2007.  She teaches in the comprehensive care clinics and directs the removable partial denture course.  Her research interests are in dental implants and ceramics.  She also studies the precision of fit and fracture resistance of all ceramic fixed partial dentures.

During graduation ceremonies last spring, the School of Dentistry’s Dental Class of 2010 presented Saglik with the Paul Gibbons Award.  The award recognizes an instructor graduating dental students consider the most influential during their time in the School’s predoctoral program.

Saglik received her dental degree from Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, where she practiced for three years after graduation.  She completed her graduate prosthodontics training at the U-M School of Dentistry in 2007.
