ADA/Dentsply Student Clinician Research Winners

Ann Arbor, MI -- November 18, 2010 -- DENTSPLY International convened the 51st Annual ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Research Award Program in October during the 2010 ADA Annual Session in Orlando, Florida. Approximately 70 student clinicians participated in this year’s program representing research conducted across 36 countries.

Anne Zeigler (D3) a 2010 ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Research Program participant won the second place prize in the Basic Science Division. She received a $750 award and trophy for her research, Erythropoietin Couples Hermatopiesis with Bone Formation.  Ziegler, U-M Student Research Program participant and Grand Prize winner at the School of Dentistry’s annual Research Day in February, attended the ADA/DENTSPLY Program as part of her Research Day prize. 

Zeigler’s research was funded in 2009-1010 through AADR and in 2010-2011 through NIH/NIDCR DE007057. Her mentor is Dr. Russell Taichman, professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine.

Amy Coplen (MS 2009) For the second year, DENTSPLY International has partnered with the American Dental Hygienists’ Association on a program aimed at promoting dental hygiene research.

Amy Coplen (MS 2009) was the 2010 winner for her project Dental Hygiene Students' Knowledge of Genetics in Dentistry: Baseline Measures.  Her research was completed when she was a student in the masters degree program in dental hygiene program at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.  Coplen is currently an assistant professor at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Faculty mentors for this project were Linda S. Taichman, RDH, MS, MPH, PhD, and Christine P. Klausner, RDH, MS.
