Expectations and Commitment
All program participants are required to live on campus during the program. Participants are expected to commit and engage in the learning process for the duration of the program.
Attendance is required for all program activities including but not limited to: pre-clinical experiences, courses, workshops, speaker presentations, and meetings with faculty, staff, and mentors. Additionally, some weekend and evening events are required to ensure maximum benefit from the program.
As a participant, you must commit to taking advantage of the various opportunities made available to facilitate your entry into the dental or medical professions.
Participants are required to dress and conduct themselves appropriately and professionally during the program. Please refer to the dress code below.
DRESS CODE
While participants are on campus, they will be expected to dress in a professional manner. No torn clothing, inappropriate shirts, revealing clothing, or headgear will be allowed at anytime. Guidelines for clinic dress are listed below. Students will spend several days shadowing faculty and students in the clinics and must dress appropriately.
Participants should plan to bring clothing for a variety of temperatures. Spring in Michigan can be unpredictable.
While observing in the clinics, students should observe the following guidelines:
All Students:
- No logo T-shirts may be worn.
- No open-toed shoes can be worn in the clinical areas.
- Socks are to be worn at all times and must cover the ankles. No bare skin can be visible.
- Jewelry should be kept to a minimum with no body-piercing showing (e.g., nose, cheek, tongue, eyebrow, lip, etc.) other than single small stud earrings in the ear lobes.
- No jeans or colored denim are allowed in the clinic.
- Hair should be trimmed, neat, and well groomed. Long hair should be worn up on the top of the head or pulled back at the nape of the neck and securely fastened.
Men:
- Collared Shirts (undershirts may be worn underneath) that are tucked in.
- Dress Slacks
- Facial hair is acceptable but must not be long enough to prevent the effective use of masks and other barrier devices.
Women:
- Sleeved blouse or shirt with no plunging necklines, midriff or navels showing (undershirts may be worn under the blouse or shirt).
- Dress slacks (Tight-fitting slacks will not be permitted).
- Makeup should be kept to a minimum at all times.
