Creating Presentation Posters
POSTER INSTRUCTIONS
To print these instructions download PosterHowTo.pdf.Poster preparation
- Create your text in Word, then copy/paste it into one of the Power Point poster templates (download your favorite template at the bottom of this page). These templates are a good place to start. Be sure to stay within the borders. You may have to reformat the text to fit the spaces provided. Keep text to a minimum, use short phrases and bullets and avoid long sentences. This will allow you to use large font sizes and will make your poster easier to read. Use graphics if possible, this will make your poster a lot more inviting.
- Charts, tables and graphs can easily be added to your poster. Create them in Excel or Word then copy/paste them into the Power Point template. Power Point also has a charting component that works just like Excel so you can create them directly in Power Point if you wish. Once pasted into the template just click on the chart and grab any corner to resize and fit.
- Photos and Clip Art can also be inserted into the template. PHOTOS MUST BE JPEG FILES. Digital photos from cameras or scans are ideal and must be medium or high resolution. NO PICTURES FROM THE WEB PLEASE, the resolution is way too low for your poster. If the photos need to be adjusted be sure to do it in a photo program before placing into the template (Photoshop Elements works well and can be accessed at any campus computing center). Pictures can be resized after insertion into the template. Be sure to check out the Clip Art Library, you might find useful photos or graphics for your poster. Note the "ONLINE" button at the bottom of the clip art window. It will take you to the Microsoft clip art library website where you’ll find thousands of pictures to choose from. When you download them they will always be placed into the 'favorites' section in your clip art library.
