Scanning
The Digital Learning Lab has two bulk slide scanners (Nikon CoolScan) and a flatbed scanner (Microtek Scanmaker 8700) available for general use. Bring media (CDR, Zip) to copy image files to or to copy files to IFS space. Graphic Converter and Photoshop software are also available in the lab for manipulation of the images once they are scanned. Click on the links below for instructions for use of the scanners and Graphic Converter:
Scanning Tips
- Scan everything at 200 dpi.
- Always save the scanned images as JPEG files.
- Insert these files into your Powerpoint presentation or Word document using Insert>Picture>From File.
- Avoid scanning text.
- If you will be inserting multiple pictures into Powerpoint or Word it is important that you resize and reduce the resolution of the scanned picture files. This will make the presentation run faster and smoother and eliminate crashes. It will also let you share easily via email. Do this using the Photoshop software or the Graphics Converter software available in the Digital Learning Lab. Final picture size should measure approx. 4 x 6 in. and have a resolution of 150 dpi. This will result in a nice clean JPEG file of <300k.
