Entering Summer Preprogram
DHYGRACK 684 Periodontics: This course begins in July and continues through October. Students from graduate periodontics, endodontics, restorative and AEGD programs participate in this course. Participation in this course is elective or required depending on the student 's background.

Fall Year One
DHYGRACK 690 Clinical Research - Introduction to Clinical Research: This course introduces the student to clinical research. Students participate in the process of proposal preparation, human subjectapproval and data collection. Faculty mentors will work closely with the student. Non-clinical research major students may elect to move this course to another semester.
DHYGRACK 683 Practicum: This course offers the graduate student mentored experiences in didactic and clinical teaching.
BIOSTAT 510 Introduction to Biostatistics: Students participate in this course with students from graduate periodontics, restorative dentistry, kinesiology and public health.
DENT ED 610 Scientific Report and Theses: This course is designed to familiarize graduate students with the process of scientific inquiry and scientific reporting. It will give students practice in literature search and review, and it will go over the major research questions for each discipline and how to investigate them. This course is also aimed at helping to facilitate the first phase of the graduate student's work toward a thesis project through critical literature review, protocol writing, and to familiarize the students with Rackham and School of Dentistry procedures and requirements for thesis completion.

Winter Year One
BIOSTATS 513 Regression Analysis - Application of Regression Analysis to Public Health Studies: This course will cover a general overview of linear, logistic, Poisson, and Cox regression. The course will use SPSS as the statistical software.
DHYGRACK 683 Practicum: This course offers the graduate student mentored experiences in didactic and clinical teaching.
DHYGRACK 688 Thesis: Investigation leading to thesis.
DHYGRACK 690 Introduction to Clinical Research (Part II of the two semester sequence): This course will introduce the student to clinical research. Students participate in the process of proposal preparation, human subject approval, and data collection. Faculty mentors will work closely with the student.

Fall Year Two
DHYGRACK 683 Practicum: This course offers the graduate student mentored experiences in didactic and clinical teaching.
DHYGRACK 688 Thesis: Investigation leading to thesis.
DHYGRACK 685 Advanced Educational Design - Educational Theory: Preparation of didactic course for winter term.
DHYGRACK 691 Clinical Research: Advanced clinical research required for students in the clinical research track. Electives needed to complete program.

Winter Year Two
DHYGRACK 683 Practicum: This course offers the graduate student mentored experiences in didactic teaching. Student will accept responsibility for a dental hygiene course. Faculty will work with the student to insure a positive experience for both the graduate and the undergraduate student.
DHYGRACK 688 Thesis: Investigation leading to thesis.
DHYGRACK 682 Seminar in Dental Hygiene: Literature and topics pertinent to dental hygiene education.
DHYGRACK 691 Clinical Research: Advanced clinical research required for students in the clinical research track.

Electives

Students have the opportunity to select from a variety of electives in the areas of radiology, oral medicine and oral health science. Courses at the School of Public Health and School of Education are open to students for elective credit. Each year, Rackham Graduate School offers statistical computer program packages. The following are some examples of electives.

Rackham Graduate School
BIOSTAT 510 Statistical Computer Programs: Students learn use of several widely used statistical computer packages such as BMPD, SAS and SPSS. Emphasis placed on relative merits of these packages with respect to types of statistical analyses and their methods of data management.

BIOSTAT 523 Biostatistical Analysis for Health-Related Studies (a second course in applied biostatistical methods and data analysis): Concepts of data analysis and experimental design for health-related studies. Emphasis on categorical data analysis, multiple regression, analysis of variance and covariance.

Health Behavior/Health Education
HBEHED530 Techniques of Survey Research: Techniques of sample interview surveys developed through lecture, research literature, discussion, and experience in design, including sampling considerations; questionnaire construction and interviewing; coding; processing, including adaptation to machine methods; and application, presentation, and evaluation of results. Emphasis on health surveys. A research project is developed as part of the course.
HBEHED: Over 50 additional classes are offered, many available to non majors.
