Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program
The degree completion program is designed to enable the dental
hygienist who has graduated with an associate degree or certificate to
complete requirements toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.
The course of study provides a broad-based education and enables graduates
to expand their career options through individualized programs. Students will
have an opportunity to interact with prestigious clinical and basic science
faculty in diverse research and educational activities.
A total of 120 semester hour credits are required for completion of the Degree Completion Program. Sixty semester hour credits from a basic dental hygiene program will be applied. The student must complete 60 semester hours beyond their dental hygiene education. For individuals who graduated from a dental hygiene program other than the University of Michigan, a maximum of 24 credit hours can be given as transfer credit with the remaining 36 hours taken in residency at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus. For University of Michigan graduates, a maximum of 45 semester hours will be transferable and the last 15 hours must be taken in residency. Each student s transcript will be individually evaluated to determine proper credits.
Included in the 60 credit hours, the student must take 15 credit hours of dental hygiene core courses. The required courses are statistics, scientific writing, research methods, and a mentored professional experience. The remaining credit hours can be selected from a list of suggested courses to enhance the student's educational goals.
