Dr. Richards has served as director of predoctoral studies in periodontics at Michigan since 1994. In addition to his teaching, educational research and administrative duties, Dr. Richards provides periodontal patient care one day each week at the non-profit Community Dental Center of Ann Arbor. He has been recognized for his innovative teaching methods and honored by students on numerous occasions, receiving the "Dr. Paul Gibbons Award" (for outstanding educational contributions during four years of dental school) from Michigan’s graduating dental classes from 1994 through 2002.
