Admission Requirements
If you wish to apply for admission, you will need to submit an application to National Matching Services (Domestic applicants) and Rackham School of Graduate Study (Domestic and International applicants). You should also request all schools where you received your dental and undergraduate education to forward two official transcripts of your scholastic records directly to the Office of Graduate Studies.

Domestic Applicants (USA, Canadian and Territorial)
Pediatric Dentistry requires participation in the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program and the American Dental Education Association’s (ADEA) Post-doctoral Application Support Service (PASS).  Applications and credentials of those who are interested in pediatric dentistry must be received by no later than October 1, proceeding the fall term in which you wish to begin study.

If you match and are accepted to the program, at that time you will be required to complete the Rackham Graduate School application online at http://www.rackham.umich.edu. Also, if you are accepted to the program, a stipend will be provided for the 30 month period and covers any tuition requirements.

International Applicants
International students must submit official academic records bearing the signature of the registrar or another academic official and either a raised or ink stamp of the issuing institution.  Records must be issued in the original language and be accompanied by certified English translations.  International applicants are not required to participate in either the PASS or Match services. 

Applications and credentials of those who are interested in pediatric dentistry must be received by no later than October 1, proceeding the fall term in which you wish to begin study.  Application through the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies is required for all applicants the current application fee is $75.00.

International students are required to take a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test.  The exam score must be current (less than 2 years old).  When registering for the exam, please indicate the University of Michigan (institute #2325) as a score recipient.  The TOEFL test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and you should take the test no later than August to ensure that your score arrives by the application deadline.  The minimum accepted score for the TOEFL is 560 for the written test and 220 for the computer-based test.

International students must submit a financial certification as part of the Graduate School application.  A completed financial Certificate outlining financial support available to you, along with original evidence to support the amounts indicated (bank statements, scholarship letters, etc.), must be submitted along with your application for admission.

You must send payment for the application fee ($75.00) in U.S. funds or international money order.  This fee cannot be waived.  Applications that arrive without the required fee will remain on file and unprocessed, pending receipt of the fee.  The Graduate School will notify you that your application was received only after the fee has been paid and the application has been processed.

If circumstance prevents you from completing the application by the specified date, please write to the Office of Graduate Studies to determine whether an opening still remains in the course of study desired.

No graduate student will be allowed to pursue a program of study on less than a half-time basis.  Tuition for 2005-2006, full-time graduate student that is a Michigan resident was $7,907.00 per term; for non-resident, tuition was $14,518.00 per term.  Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

In addition to tuition, there is an $80.00 per term registration fee, a $1.50 per term school/college government fee, a $7.19 per term Michigan Student Assembly fee, and a $6.0 per term student legal services fee.  Fees are payable prior to registration, at registration, or in installments during the term.  The number and dates of the installments will be specified in advance of each term. 

All Applicants
Each student will also be expected to purchase the materials required for the investigation leading to thesis which must be submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science.

All students, except those whose sponsors insure them or whose parents insure them and live in the United States or Canada, are required to purchase Student Group Health Insurance.  Two basic plans are available.  The annual premium depends upon the plan selected and the number of individuals covered.  For additional information, contact the Michigan Student Assembly.

Master of Science and Certificate

Graduate programs leading to the Master of Science degree are arranged so that the major interest may be concentrated on special phases of dental science supported by courses in allied fields.  The student spends time in the practical application of their education as skills are developed in dental clinics.
