FRANCIS B. VEDDER SOCIETY

In 1959 The Francis B. Vedder Society was founded as a postgraduate professional organization dedicated to the study of problems related to crown and bridge prosthodontics. The Society, named in honor of Dr. Francis B. Vedder, an educator, clinician, and chairman of the Crown and Bridge Department of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, has been active for over 40 years. Today, with over 350 members, the Society holds educational meetings twice each year and attracts illustrious lecturers from around the world.

Crown & Bridge Prosthodontics Award

The F.B.Vedder Society annually offers a $500 award and certificate to the top senior
student in Crown and Bridge. The Society was founded in honor of Dr. Francis B.
Vedder, who was a UM faculty member for forty years and the chairman of the Crown
and Bridge Department at the time of his retirement in 1961.

Instructions for Students:

The award winner is determined by a committee of faculty members who impartially
review the materials submitted by each candidate. Each restorative dentistry instructor
may nominate their best student in crown and bridge. If you have had a good crown and
bridge experience, done with your independent effort, are willing to put in the time
needed to present your case, and your supervising instructor is willing to nominate you,
then please consider competing for this award.

Your instructor may advise you in the production of your best case presentation. You
must present one case (3 or more units of C&B done simultaneously). If you have more
than one case of suitable quality, you may present the working casts with dies of these
cases as additional supporting documentation of your skills.

All applicants must submit their materials at the Dept of Prosthodontics Office by
Monday, 2/19/07, at 12:00 Noon. They will be reviewed and judged that afternoon and
can then be picked up at the office on Tuesday, 2/20/07.

The intent is to select one winner. The top five finalists will be invited to, and
acknowledged at, the Spring meeting of the Society, on March 15, 2007, held in Lansing, MI.

Questions about the Award should be directed to Dr. Josef Kolling or Dr. Howard Hamerick
