Supporting Education
Computer technology is integral to today’s learning environment. All e-learning at the School, including online courses and technology enhancements for face-to-face courses, is coordinated through the Office of Dental Informatics and the Assistant Dean for Informatics and Innovation, Lynn Johnson.Wondering what teaching technologies are available to you? Have an area of student performance you’d like to improve? Let us show you your options!
We offer the following services to help faculty teach more effectively and students learn more easily.
Online course development
Successful online courses are so much more than recorded lectures. We can help you through the extensive planning and development necessary to put your course online – from deciding on content delivery and interaction methods to faculty development and student training. Please contact us at least six months before you expect your course to open online.
Incorporating video, simulation, and images
If you need media, such as video clips or dental diagrams, for a course, CE, or presentation, we can find or create them for you. Contact:
- Dan Bruell (danlbee@umich.edu or 5-2676) for video
- Chris Jung (cjung@umich.edu or 3-3322) for still images
- Emily Springfield (espring@umich.edu or 5-2679) for simulations or other instructional multimedia
Open Educational Resources
If you have educational resources, such as collections of clinical slides or course materials, that you would like to share with the world, let us know! We are part of the University’s Open.Michigan effort to provide educational resources free of charge to students and faculty around the world.
Recording lectures
Lectures can be captured with equipment permanently installed in G322, G378, G390, and G550. Most classroom lectures are recorded and published in an internal iTunes U site. If you would like to record a lecture in one of these rooms, please contact Doug Chase (dchase@umich.edu or 5-0549).
In addition, we have mobile equipment to record lectures, invited speakers, or other events in almost any room in the School of Dentistry. These recordings are generally made available through our public iTunes U site and our YouTube channel. More information is available on our Services page.
Please contact Dan Bruell (danlbee@umich.edu or 5-2676) to request recording services.
