Lecture Capture
What is iTunes U for Dentistry?
iTunes U for U-M Dentistry is a repository of regular curriculum lectures and presentations that have been recorded. The format of the recordings, when possible, is both ‘audio only’ and ‘video synced with audio.' These recordings are typically available for streaming or download within a few hours after the lecture.
Since fall 2004 we’ve had the capability to record lectures in all the large lecture halls in the School of Dentistry and automatically have those recordings (podcasts) appear in iTunes U.
As of fall 2008, we’ve added the capability to create ‘enhanced podcasts’ - synced audio with video. These enhanced podcasts are in addition to audio-only versions.
Who can access these recordings?
Any U-M Dentistry or hygiene student, staff or faculty will be able to access this content.
You must have the iTunes application installed on the computer you’re using. iTunes is installed by default on all Apple computers; it’s also a free download for Windows users.

Who does the recordings? Are all lectures recorded?
The recordings are done by students in the class. Each dental class has 2-3 student ‘recorders’ who start and end the recordings for the various lectures. Typically, those 2-3 students in each class will continue to be the classroom recorders from the D1 year through to graduation.
Students decide which lectures need to be recorded.
How are the recordings organized?
Content is grouped by Dental Class, then by Semester, then by Course. Any user can view all content.
Is the content searchable?
Searching is possible via iTunes interface.
Are the lecture notes or presentation files available for download on iTunes U?
No - presentation files are not available from iTunes U, lecture materials can be made available by your instructor via Ctools. Ask your instructor about the Ctools site for the class in question.
