Detroit Oral Cancer Prevention Project Continuing Education Course
The course is designed to provide focused modules to learn about oral tissues and how cancer can be detected and prevented. Information is presented on oral cancer detection, prevention and the oral cavity and its complex structures. The course describes methods to prevent oral cancer.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify what oral cancer looks like
  • Identify the sites in the mouth with the highest risk of developing oral cancer
  • Conduct an oral cancer screening and a brush biopsy
  • Understand the morbidity associated with oral cancer and its treatment
  • Counsel patients on ways to prevent oral cancer

Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation in a Primary Care Setting
This training program is designed for primary health care providers, including physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. It can also be used by any other health care providers who are interested in learning more about oral health and tobacco cessation.

This program will provide health care providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to:

  • screen for and prevent dental caries and tooth decay;
  • screen for and prevent periodontal or gum diseases;
  • screen for and prevent oral and pharyngeal cancer; and
  • identify tobacco users and provide tobacco cessation counseling.
