Our Oral & Maxillofacial Radiologists
Erika Benavides, DDS, PhD, Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Benavides is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and serves as Chair of the Research & Technology Committee and Councilor for Communications of the ABOMR. She obtained her dental degree at the University of Valle in Cali, Colombia and completed an externship program in the Craniofacial Genetics Department at the Medical University of South Carolina. Subsequently, at the University of Missouri Kansas City and the Truman Medical Center she completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) program and also received her Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology training and a PhD in Oral Biology and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Benavides has published multiple peer-reviewed papers on the multidisciplinary aspects of diagnostic imaging. She recently received the 2012 Charles E. English Annual Award for the most significant article in the Clinical Science and Techniques section of the Journal of Implant Dentistry. Her research interests include the integration of emerging technology to evaluate tissue properties and structure. Her faculty practice is dedicated to cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Wisam Al-Rawi, BDS, MS, MSc, Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Al-Rawi completed graduate training at the Katholieke University of Leuven, Belgium in the field of oral imaging. He completed a graduate residency in oral and maxillofacial radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As the developer of a website for cone beam CT education, and iCBCT and iPanoramic apps for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, Dr. Al-Rawi’s interests include interactive mobile-based education, digital radiography, and use of natural user interface (NUI) for human-computer interaction. He has published several peer-reviewed papers in respected journals in the field and presented at multiple national and international conferences.

Our Radiology Technologist
Earlene Landis, RDA, is a Senior Dental Assistant in the Dental Faculty Associates Clinic. She completed her associates degree in Applied Sciences at Lansing Community College which included certification to take dental radiographs in the State of Michigan. Earlene received specialized training for CBCT scanning at the U-M School of Dentistry.
