Post-Doctoral Scholars Program in Prosthodontics
Return to Prosthodontic Graduate Program
Program Overview and Objectives
Our Postdoctoral Scholars Program in Prosthodontics is a one-year certificate program offered for internationally trained dental school graduates and practitioners. This program is coordinated through the Office of Continuing Dental Education (http://www.dent.umich.edu/cde-postdocprograms) and is awarded a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program. This program provides exposure to didactic courses to enhance knowledge and skills in the area of prosthodontics and implant dentistry. Although this program does NOT lead to a Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics, it does provide exceptional academic exposure and experience. At the completion of the program, a "Certificate of Completion" is awarded.
The program includes classes with prosthodontic graduate students as well as a chance to observe and participate in the prosthodontic clinics. The program is also structured to allow for a great deal of personalized instruction. It involves auditing didactic courses of first year prosthodontic graduate courses and gives the participants an opportunity to assist and shadow clinical procedures performed in our graduate clinic. While trainees do not treat patients in the clinic, they are encouraged to observe and participate in treatment planning of the cases. Additionally, some projects are performed on manikins and models. Upon fulfillment of the program requirements, students receive a certificate of completion.
This program is not intended to prepare individuals to practice a specialty. For a specialty degree, participants are encouraged to apply for a ADA accredited prosthodontics program. Although completion of the program does not guarantee acceptance to a graduate prosthodontics program, it will improve the knowledge and skills of the participants in the areas of prosthodontics and implant dentistry. It also offers an opportunity for participants to return to their country with additional insights and expertise in prosthodontics for their practice, teaching, or research.
