- Congratulations to Alex DaSilva: Migraine Pain App Wins 1st Place in U-M Tech Challenge.
- Peter Ma won the IADR Isaac Schour Memorial Award for 2013, and will also receive a Clemson Award from the Society for Biomaterials later this year.
- Dec 2012 – Members of the American Association for Dental Research elected Paul Krebsbach as the AADR vice president for 2013-2014. He will take office at the conclusion of the 42nd AADR Annual Meeting, held in Seattle, Washington, March 20-23, 2013. Krebsbach is professor and chair, Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences, University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
- Nov 2012 – A third-year student at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry recently won third place for her poster presentation at the annual session for the American College of Prosthodontists. Her mentor was Renee Duff.
- Nov 2012 – Nineteen U-M researchers were elected as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. David Kohn is honored for distinguished contributions to the fields of biomaterials and biomechanics, with particular emphasis on the restoration of mineralized tissues and characterization of their mechanical function.
- Aug 2012 – Paul Krebsbach, U-M Dental School faculty member, joins Biointerfaces Institute at NCRC.

Congratulations to the BMS faculty who have been busy and successful obtaining new grants and awards.
1. Yuji Mishina - two year sub contract with Carnegie-Mellon from the Department of Defense2. Peter Ma - two year award from Amgen Inc.3. Peter Ma - three year award from the National Science Foundation4. Peter Ma - 5 year, multiple PI award from the National Institutes of Health5. Jian Geng - one year award from Sanofi-Aventis Pharaceuticals6. Sanofi-Aventis also recently licensed one of Jian's patents and has used his technology to initiate a phase I clinical trial for hepatocellular carcinoma.

The dental students recently recognized the following faculty as the “Most Appreciated Faculty” in their respective clinics:
- Hal O’Kray - 2 Green
- Mark Snyder - 3 Blue
- Furat George - 3 Green (runner up)
- Dave Kohn will receive the Isaac Schour Memorial Award at the IADR meeting in Brazil. This award is intended to confer the highest honor in the field of dental and craniofacial research and honor those scientists who, through research in this field, bring about significant advances in oral health. Dave will also be inducted as a Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE), awarded by the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
- Led by Berna Saglik, the team of Berna, Daler Tarrazzi and Renee Duff has been chosen to participate in the Strategies Toward Excellent Practices (STEP) 2012 Program at the University of Michigan. The group will work with other colleagues across the university to develop new teaching strategies. This group will work to improve clinical foundation knowledge and skills in prosthodontics.
- Berna Saglik started her term in the American Dental Education Association’s (ADEA) leadership Institute. This program will provide Berna with opportunities to further develop her leadership skills. The program will also offer insights on legislative issues at the national and state levels. Berna will be expected to apply what she has learned to address key issues in dental education.
- Fei Liu recently was awarded a 5-year investigator initiated R01 award from the NIH.
- Peter Ma recently was awarded a 5-year research grant from the US Department of Defense.
- Dave Kohn spearheaded an effort that resulted in the competitive renewal of our NIH supported T-32 award. This large grant provides the funds to support, train and mentor the next generation of dental academic leaders.
- Dr. Krebsbach wins IADR Distinguished Scientist Award for Basic Research in Biological Mineralization
- Dr. Charlotte Mistretta was recently recognized with the prestigious Kerry-Manheimer Award
- Drs. Berna Saglik and Emily Giroux have been chosen as Clinical Faculty of the Year by their Clinics
- Rackham Non-traditional Fellowship Awarded to First Year Resident Lisa Kane in Prosthodontic Graduate Program for 2010-2011
