Orthodontic Applicants International Applicants

Applications and credentials of international students who are interested in Orthodontics must be received by the Post-doctoral Application Support Service (PASS) no later than September 1.  International applicants are required to submit ALL of the following items to be considered for an interview.  In the PASS application please include:

  • Scores for Part 1 of the National Dental Board Examination (NDBE)
  • GRE scores 
  • TOEFL exam score
  • The Postdoctoral Dental Match Program Code
  • Letters of recommendation (see PASS instructions)

International students are required to take a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test. The exam score must be current (less than 2 years old). When registering for the exam, please indicate the University of Michigan (institute code 1839) as a score recipient. The TOEFL test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and you should take the test no later than August 1 to ensure that your score arrives by the application deadline. The minimum accepted score for the TOEFL is 84 for ibt (internet based test).

The Orthodontics proram participates in the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program.  After all interviews are complete and Match results are announced, accepted candidates will be contacted to submit:

  • The University of Michigan's online application
  • Original NDBE Part 1 scores
  • Original dental transcripts - documents must be issued in the original language and be accompanied by a certified English translation.
