Testing

As students work toward completion of their program, there are several key exams necessary for both graduation and the ability to practice dentistry.  We have listed here some helpful information and links regarding those exams:

The Objectively Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
An exam administered during the D4 year, it is administered by the School of Dentistry and requires successful completion for graduation.

National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part I
Usually taken after the second year of dental school, the above link takes you to the American Dental Association's (ADA) web site for information on the NBDE - Part I.

After registering, please contact the School Registrar to “approve” your eligibility to take the exam.  Once "approved”, you should receive an email from the ADA to schedule your exam date.

If you need to retake the exam, the ADA will not allow you to register to retake the exam until after a 90 day wait period.

National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part II
Usually taken during the fourth year of dental school, the above link will take you to ADA's web site for information on the NBDE - Part II.

Effective January 1, 2010, candidates who pass the NBDE Part II may not retake the examination unless required to do so by a state board or relevant regulatory agency.

If you need to retake the exam, the ADA will not allow you to register to retake the exam until after a 90 day wait period.

Regional Board Exams
To practice dentistry, dentists are requied to take a regional clinical exam to qualify for state licensure.
