Integrated Medical Sciences (IMS)

The IMS sequence comprises four courses designed to provide a foundation of knowledge concerning human biology relevant to the practice of dentistry as well as experience in the application and extension of this knowledge to address clinical problems of dental relevance. IMS replaces what were formerly stand-alone courses in biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, histology, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. Each IMS course is broken down into modules where faculty in each of the aforementioned disciplines teach in their area of expertise. See below for a listing of the various modules. The faculty submit lecture notes which are combined and distributed to students as course packs for each module, eliminating much of the need for textbooks. The lectures are also available to students by podcast for later review.
