Dental Class of 2004 Announces Gift for Scholarships |
||||
Ann Arbor, MI May 8, 2004 Dental graduates of the Class of 2004 announced a gift to the School of Dentistry during commencement ceremonies today. Afua Mireku, class president, said graduating dental students have already raised $2,000 to establish a fund for scholarships for future U-M dental students. “As alumni, the Class of 2004 will donate to the School through this fund,” she said. “When the fund reaches $100,000, the account will be activated. From the interest that accrues, scholarships will be given every year to University of Michigan dental students for as long as the School is in existence,” she said. Mireku said the gift of the Class of 2004 “is our thank you to the School of Dentistry and to all individuals who have worked to make it an outstanding institution.” The University of Michigan School of Dentistry is now engaged in a campaign to raise $35 million for student scholarships, endowed professorships, and facility improvements. The School’s fundraising efforts are an integral part of the University’s efforts to raise $2.5 billion during the next five years.
