Clewell Receives Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award |

The School of Dentistry's Dr. Don Clewell was among 21 U-M faculty members recognized for their teaching, scholarship, service, and creative activities at a dinner October 2.Clewell, professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences (BMS) and professor of microbiology and immunology at the U-M Medical School, was one of five individuals receiving a Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award. He was the first faculty member with a primary appointment at the School of Dentistry to receive the prestigious award. The award recognizes an individual's extraordinary achievements in teaching, scholarly research or creative endeavors. Up to five awards of $1,500 each are presented annually. Full and associate professors who have not previously won the award are eligible. Dr. Christian Stohler, BMS chair, wrote a letter enthusiastically supporting Clewell's nomination. "He is an exemplary candidate with extraordinary achievements in basic research on molecular aspects of bacterial gene regulation related to plasmid biology and the spread of antibiotic resistance. Receiving this nomination from peers in the Medical School speaks highly of the deep recognition of Dr. Clewell in the University-at-large." Clewell was nominated by Dr. Michael Savageau, professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical School. ### | |||
